Scheduled economic releases can move markets in seconds. This calendar lists upcoming events by country and importance, in your local time, so you know what is coming before you place a trade.
Events that move markets
- Interest rate decisions: central bank announcements and press conferences often cause the largest moves in currencies.
- Employment reports: in the US, the non-farm payrolls report is usually released monthly on a Friday and is closely watched.
- Inflation data: CPI and PPI figures shape expectations for interest rates.
- GDP and growth data: show the health of an economy.
- PMI and retail sales: early signals of business and consumer activity.
How to read the calendar
Each event has an importance level, usually low, medium or high, plus three numbers: the previous result, the forecast and the actual result. Markets often react to the difference between the actual figure and the forecast, not to the number alone.
How traders use it
- Check high-impact events before entering. A trade with a tight stop can be closed in seconds by a news spike.
- Expect wider spreads and slippage. Liquidity can thin out around releases.
- Reduce size or stay out. Many traders avoid opening new positions just before major events.
- Plan around the schedule. Use the market sessions clock to see how the release fits into the trading day.
